Can I change my visa status while an aupair and leave the program?

In addition to the information in the previous responses, note that while it may be unlikely that a J-1 visa for an au pair would be coupled with a two-year home residency requirement, that is among the issues that should be addressed in assessing change of status eligibilities.

You may change your status when you have a J1 visa.

A person in J status may file an application to change status. Current change of status processing time is presently more than a year.
