The Avvo Rating
The Avvo Rating calculates a 1-to-10 score—from "Extreme Caution" to "Superb"—for each attorney based on their experience, education, peer endorsements, and disciplinary history. For consumers, it delivers an instant snapshot of a lawyer's credentials. For attorneys, it provides an objective mark of credibility that helps build prospective clients' trust.

Avvo Reviews
Avvo Reviews give clients a voice and attorneys a powerful way to build their reputation. In the past year alone, more than 72,000 new attorney reviews were added, making Avvo one of the most active sources of client feedback in the legal industry. Only people who hired or consulted with an attorney can post a review, and all reviews must meet our Community Guidelines. Fake reviews are removed, and genuine client feedback stands—positive or negative—regardless of an attorney's relationship with Avvo.

The Q&A Forum
Our Q&A Forum gives consumers free, anonymous access to licensed attorneys who can speak directly to their situation. Last year, users asked nearly 124,000 new questions and received more than 126,000 answers, making our forum one of the most active legal resources online. For consumers, it's a way to get genuine legal insight, ask follow-up questions, and understand their options.
For attorneys, it's a chance to demonstrate expertise, increase visibility, and connect with potential clients at the moment they need help most.
The Avvo Rating is calculated by a proprietary model developed with input from attorneys, consumers, and other legal professionals. It draws on two data sources: public records (from state bars, regulatory agencies, and courts) and information attorneys share on their profiles. Each lawyer is evaluated using the same objective criteria—experience, education, professional achievements, peer endorsements, and disciplinary history.
Every factor that influences the score is visible on the attorney's profile, and ratings automatically update as new data arrives. The same standards apply to every attorney. The rating can't be bought: no manual overrides, no exceptions, and no commercial relationship with Avvo can change the number.

Our attorney coverage figures are based on the ABA National Lawyer Population Survey, which compiles licensed attorney counts from state bar associations across the U.S. each year. Q&A volume and review counts are Avvo platform data; cumulative totals are all-time figures, and annual figures reflect 2025 unless otherwise specified.
