Dennis did a great job with my two cases. My motion to adjudicate on an assault case was dismissed despite picking up a dwi case while on deferred adjudication. My son received a DWI and Dennis got it reduced to an obstruction of highway charge. This came with a short deferred adjudication, no fine, and no reporting. For over a year and a half he showed persistence, diligence, and dedication by driving from Houston to Dallas six times to represent my son. ...He worked hard to get a result that we were thrilled with! He showed us all of the evidence that he had to combat, which included a video and a police report. He created affidavits of our witnesses and arranged for scene photos to be taken to show the prosecutor that there was indeed obstruction on the highway. He prepared for and argued a motion to suppress on the grounds that there was no probable cause to stop our son. He lost that motion, but the judge later stated that he should have won and encouraged the prosecution to dismiss or reduce the charges. He also had our son take an online DWI class to show the court that he had learned his lesson about drinking and driving. He instructed our son on how to dress appropriately in court and to not wear his hair in pigtails. He also coached our son on how to testify effectively on the stand. Overall, he communicated well with myself, my wife, and my son. As a result of the outcome of our case, we avoided all of the surcharge fees to the state for our son to keep his drivers license, and we avoided the higher insurance rates we would have suffered had he been convicted. Of course, my son avoided being locked up in jail for up to six months, as well as being on real probation for a year with it’s fees, community service, classes, and random drug and alcohol testing. That would’ve been a tremendous hassle! Also, he can now travel to Canada, which he would not have been able to do had he been convicted of a DWI. One of the things I was most impressed with was Dennis’ knowledge of the formal and informal ways in which the courts operate. He has impressive relational intelligence, and his ability to form relationships with the judge and court personnel enabled him to establish a credibility that caused them to listen to his perspectives and consider them, when they might not have done so with an attorney who was less kind and congenial. In summary, we were very pleased with Dennis’s work, and there was a lot of joy and celebration in our household when we learned of the outcome of our son’s case!

Attorney Powell handled my case from beginning to end with the utmost professionalism and courtesy. He explained the legal terms to me in a way that I was able to understand. Dennis has helped my girlfriend on 2 occasions now, once with the original charge of felony evading with a motor vehicle, after several court appearances he got it down to 2 yrs probation with no additional jail time.
